Inter-disciplinary learning
Adventure Ecology supports students to develop a capacity to make sense of the world in which they live and participate, to build good relationships with others, and to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. The world is increasingly global and culturally diverse. More than ever its future is dependent on building mutually responsible and sustainable patterns of living.

Adventure Ecology combines discipline-based learning and inter-disciplinary learning. The multiple intelligences approach taken in learning assignments means they cover a variety of disciplines. In particular, the curriculum is of special interest to Social Studies, Geography, Science, Civics and English teachers.

Information about one of the major challenges facing our world’s future has been developed for a K–12 audience, in an inter-disciplinary way. The site combines effective integration of technologies such as: animated game playing, student-led global collaboration and self reflection through moderated blogs, discussion forums, video conferencing and chat rooms, in a learning environment that students control through flexible customisation.

All aspects of the learning takes into account current brain research on how students learn, and assignments adopt Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences approach. Students can select assignments designed for the various intelligences: Visual/Spatial, Verbal/Linguistic, Logical/Mathematical, Bodily/Kinaesthetic, Musical/Rhythmic, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal. Given the relationship of the learning content to environmental issues, the eighth intelligence: Naturalist, is logically integrated in most assignments students complete. Learn more.

Flexible learning
Flexibility for both teachers and students is central to the site, which includes resource tools that will last far longer than the expedition undertaken by the Adventure Ecology team. The focus is on the right mix of online education and inspiration needed to demand that we all ask the right questions and seek the successful responses required to start focusing on change.

Through various technologies and learning opportunities, students undertake their own virtual expedition – they journey, discover and explore.

All in one place
Many teachers have had the experience of using educational websites that direct users from one link to another – they can be frustrating, and all to often, we become entangled (and lost!) in an enormous cyber world in the search for the right information. Adventure Ecology is an ‘all in one place’ learning environment. Our aim is to include everything you need in one place and if it’s not there you have the opportunity to add resources and curriculum.
